Holiday Festivities and Packages Abound in Telluride
TELLURIDE, Colo. (Dec. 7, 2000) - This holiday season, Telluride offers a calendar of events packed full of entertainment and celebratory festivities
for locals and visitors alike. Holiday travelers not only have a variety of Christmas events from which to choose but also an assortment of packages to accommodate families, couples and friends seeking a memorable holiday getaway.
Holiday Festivities
Beginning this weekend families can join Santa for Sunday brunch at Legends Restaurant in the Wyndham Peaks Resort. Children can visit and have their
picture taken with Santa and his live reindeer, Dec. 13-16, in the Mountain Village Plaza. Kids will also spot Santa Claus skiing around lifts 1, 4 and 10, from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Dec. 18-24. The Telluride Choral Society performs their WinterSing 2000, “A Celtic New
Year,” in a series of concerts at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church (Dec. 10 at 2 p.m. and Dec. 15 at 7 p.m.) and at the Telluride Conference Center (Dec.
18 at 7 p.m.) through the holiday season. Tickets can be purchased at $10 for adults and $5 for children under 12 at the door of St. Patrick’s. The Conference Center Performance is $35 in advance and $40 at the door. Entertainment gurus and history enthusiasts can visit the Sheridan Opera House, a famous historic landmark in town, throughout the holiday season for a variety of entertainment options. Several highlights include long-time local George Gage’s movie, “Fire on the Mountain,” to benefit the Mountain School; the movie, “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas,” to benefit the
Telluride Academy; a free holiday concert with the Steve and Mike Duo and Santa Claus; Bob Dubac’s comedy show, “The Male Intellect: An oxymoron;” gospel-inspired pop and blues singer Nina Storey; and folk rock musician Shawn Colvin. For art lovers and ice sculptors, the Ice House is holding an Ice Sculpture Exhibition. Participants carve their sculptures, Dec. 20-24, and art lovers

On Christmas Eve, Telluride sparkles with lights as the Torchlight Parade cascades down Coonskin Run into town. An avalanche bomb signifies the 6 p.m. start.

As the holidays near an end, the calendar counts down to Telluride’s New Year’s Celebration. New Year’s Eve in town kicks off with a bang at 6 p.m.as an avalanche bomb signifies the start of the Torchlight Parade from
Coonskin Run into town. At 7 p.m., Telski will launch a fireworks celebration for the town of Telluride. The celebration continues in Mountain Village with fireworks at 9 p.m. The Sheridan Opera House celebrates New Year’s with Motown legends Chuck Jackson and Darlene Love in a concert of 60s and 70s New York sounds.
