The Verde Canyon Railroad is known as the Wilderness route. It travels through the remains of the old United Verde Copper Company and the canyon.
During the fall months, the change of color is spectacular in the Verde Canyon. You can even see some wildlife including Mule Deer, Whitetail Deer, Antelope, Javelina, Red-tail Hawks, Great Blue Herons, and Belted Kingfishers. Other attractions in the canyon include Sinagua Indian ruins dating back to 600 A.D., access to Sycamore Wilderness area and passage through a manmade 680-foot tunnel. You and your family will enjoy seeing all of the signts, and don't forget your camera!
On single train days, the train leaves at 1pm and returns at 5pm. On double train days, trains leave at 9am and 2pm. During the summer, there are the Starlight Tours and the Grape Train Escape trains which leave at 5:30pm.
There are also "great escape" packages available with hotels in Sedona, Arizona.
2004 Rates:
First class fares are $59.95. Adult coach fares are $39.95; Senior Coach (65+) $35.95 and children ages 2-12 are $24.95.
