The Whitewater Valley Railroad is leaving the station -- wouldn't you and your family like to climb aboard? This thirty-two mile round trip takes passengers from Connersville to Metamora, Indiana, and travels along the towpath of the Whitewater Canal. You can see the Laurel Feeder Dam along the way, as well as the fabulous foliage during the fall.
2004 Rates:
The regular trains run May through October. The Connersville-Metamora Train departs at 12:01 EST and gets back into Connersville at 5pm on every Saturday and Sunday between May 1st and October 31st. This trip has a 2 hour lay over in Metamora good for exploring. Round trip fares for adults are $16 and children are $9, one way fares are $14 for adults and $8 for kids, and Caboose tickets are $20 for adults and $11 for kids.
The WildWest Train departs on August 21, September 18, October 16. The schedule times and fares are the same as those outlined above. The Laurel Inn Train to Dinner departs at 6pm on the first and third Fridays during the regular season and travels to the Laurel Hotel. Adult fare is $25 and child fare is $15, and reservations are required. The fare includes the round trip train ride, the meal, tax and tip (Prices may change without notice). The Fall Foliage trains depart at 10am on Thursdays and Fridays in October with a two hour lay over in Metamora. There are also many other special event trains throught July 4, 2005 which are listed at the Whitewater Valley Railroad Excursion Schedule online.
Metamora is a historic 1800's town. They have over 100 shops to explore during the 2-hour layover. There are parks, lakes and the Mary Gray Bird Sanctuary. The Reynolds Museum houses historical exhibits, Civil War relics and an industrial display on the town of Connersville.
