The Western Maryland Scenic Railroad is nicknamed Mountain Thunder. It is a perfect description for this 32-mile round trip excursion between Cumberland and Frostburg, Maryland. Train trips depart from May through December. During the fall months, families can enjoy the colorful scenery while learning about the history of the railroad.
2004 Rates
The 3 ˝ hour excursions include a layover in Frostburg, Maryland. From May 6 through December 12, the train departs at 11:30am. On the third and fourth Saturdays in October, there is an additional departure at 4:30pm due to high demand for fall foliage trips. Please check the website at: www.wmsr.com for the operating schedule, specialty trains, and other excursion festivities that take place throughout the year. Fares are $20 for adults, seniors (60+) are charged $18, and tickets for children 2-12 are $10. Children under the age of 2 ride free free when not occupying a seat. First Class, which includes ticket, lunch, and gratuity is $39 for adults, $37 for Seniors (60+), $20 for children (12 & under), and do to limited space $10 will be charged for every child not eating even those under 2. Group rates are offered.
