The Mount Hood Railroad allows families to enjoy the beautiful vistas of the Columbia Gorge and the Oregon countryside in a relaxed manner. The railroad was built in 1906 and takes its passengers along the Hood River and up the mountain. It uses the old switchback system to help climb up the three percent grade hill. Make sure to take your camera for panoramic views the of Cascades, including Mount Hood (elevation 11,235') and Mount Adams (elevation 12,237') on the Washington side of the Columbia Gorge.

The Mount Hood Railroad season runs from April through mid-December and the times vary depending on the month and the type of trip. Trains depart from the Mount Hood Railroad Depot for a 44-mile round trip excursion with a one hour layover in Parkdale, Oregon. There are 4-hour round trip scenic tours through the Hood River Valley, narrated historic excursion tours, dinner and brunch trains and monthly special events. Regular excursion train fares are $23 for adults, $21 for seniors (60+) and $15 for children (2-12). Special event fares are $2.50 higher for each category. For the dinner trains, rates per person are as follows: Dinner Train $70, Brunch Train $57, Murder Mystery Dinner Train $80, Comedy Dinner Train $80, and the Holiday Brunch Train $62. Halloween and Christmas Tree excursions are also offered.
