Children are always intrigued by hearing the train's whistles blowing and waiting for the caboose to go by. Wouldn't your family enjoy this unique excursion? The Texas State Railroad is a great choice for a railroad adventure.. The railroad is a historic property that was established in 1896. Since that time, it has been turned into a state park. The railroad offers a 50 mile round trip excursion that runs between Palestine and Rusk, Texas. It travels through the forests of eastern Texas and crosses 30 bridges. The bridge over the Neches River is 1,100 feet long.
The Texas State Railroad also offers special railroad excursions including a murder mystery, western weekend event, and autumn color runs during the fall months. The Oak Street Village Shops in Palestine feature over 50 crafts vendors and are a fun place to see local artisans and purchase handicrafts.
2004 Rates
The train ride takes about 4 hours to complete, including a one-hour layover in either Palestine or Rusk. Excursions run August through November on Saturdays and Sundays. Call for School Trips which run April, May and October. The Rusk and Palestine trains leave their respective depots at 11am and return at 3:30pm. Round trip fares for regular seating is: $16 for adults and $10 for children ages 3-12. One-way tickets are $11 for adults and $7 for children. Fares for round trip excursions in climate controlled cars are $22 for adults and $14 for children (3-12) with one-way fares being $15 for adults and $11 for children. Reservations are recommended. Snacks and souvenirs are sold on the trains.
